Be Prepared: Before you decide to donate your hair, take some time to research different organizations and their specific requirements. Each charity may have different guidelines on minimum length requirements, treatment, and types accepted.

Choose a Trusted Salon: Consider visiting a reputable salon with hair donation experience. The right place can help you cut your hair to the required length and ensure it’s prepared correctly for donation.

Clean and Dry: Ensure your hair is clean and completely dry before cutting. Avoid any styling products, as they can affect the quality of the hair and its ability to be used in wig production.

Secure the Locks: After cutting your hair, it’s best to secure the locks in a ponytail or braid with a rubber band at the bottom and the top of the ponytail. This helps to keep them together and is the preferred method for many organizations to ensure the hair remains in good condition.

Follow Mailing Instructions: If you’re mailing your hair donation, carefully follow the organization’s instructions on packaging and submitting it. Place hair in a padded envelope, which will help protect your gift during transit.

Include a Donation Form: Many organizations ask for a donation form to accompany your hair. This form typically includes your contact information and may involve your consent for using the hair. Be sure to complete and include it

Celebrate Your Contribution: Remember that your donation is a powerful gift to someone in need. Take a moment to reflect on your positive impact on someone else’s life—your kindness is truly inspiring!

What Donated Hair Is Used For

Donated hair plays a crucial role in empowering individuals facing medically-related hair loss, such as cancer treatment or radiation therapy, helping to restore their confidence and sense of self.

The most common use of donated hair is for creating human hair wigs, which provide children and young adults with a natural-looking alternative that allows them to enjoy life without feeling defined by their circumstances.

Beyond wigs, some organizations repurpose hair donations for environmental initiatives, such as creating mats to absorb oil spills. This dual purpose is a powerful reminder that your generous gesture can uplift those in need and contribute positively to our environment.

Your hair donation has the potential to spark joy and renewal in more ways than one!
