Inside: All about SilverCon (the Silver Sisters International Convention) in July 2020
PLEASE NOTE: THIS CONVENTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE COVID-19 SITUATION
As I’ve noted before on this blog, the silver hair community is one of the most supportive and inclusive groups of women I’ve ever encountered.
So I’m excited to announce that there is going to be a Silver Sister Convention this summer in Costa Mesa, California!
My lovely friends Karen and Marina are organizing the conference, aptly named SilverCon 2020, and it’s going to be fabulous.
I met Karen last year at a silver sister meetup in Studio City, CA and we’ve gotten to know each other well over the past year. I recently asked Karen to share her thoughts on SilverCon, and she was kind enough to do so:
What made you think about starting a convention for women with gray hair?
Marina and I would joke around that we wanted to create a giant sleepover for all of the people who we interacted with on Instagram.
The reason above all others is that we wanted to meet, in person, all of the people that we created close relationships with online. We wanted to see what happened when we put us all together in one place!
Then the idea grew into wanting to provide educational sessions, key-note speakers, a marketplace…and that’s when the idea for SilverCon really started to take shape.
What is the conference’s mission? And vision?
To create a social and educational environment to empower individuals who are thinking about (or are already) letting their silvers free.
Providing an opportunity for individuals at any stage of the graying process to receive strength and encouragement from others in the community, and giving them a feeling of belonging to a movement that’s bigger than just ditching the dye.
To bring the virtual silver community into the real world.
To celebrate the friendships and connections that we’ve made through our online community.
To be able to personally thank one another for the support, encouragement, and empowerment.
Where and when is SilverCon?

I would love to know if this event will be rescheduled. It’s such a wonderful idea!
Thank you,

Hi, Judy!
I haven’t heard anything yet but I will definitely update this page if they decided to move forward in 2021 or 2022!
I would love to attend the next conference please.
Can you confirm that this is still on for July? There is so much uncertainty around traveling right now, and being in large groups. I really was looking forward to attending.
Hi, Mayda – I spoke to them yesterday, and it sounds like right now they are in a “wait and see” mode. I will definitely let everyone know when I hear something!
Wish I could go, but I’ll be traveling. Love the location, less than a mile from my work! Will it always be held there?
Darn! I think the idea is that they will have a different location every year. Marina lives in Europe so I think next year it will be somewhere over there? I’ll let you know once I find out more!
Can’t wait!
Would love to attend but I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it, I live in West Virginia.
If you can come, Rebecca, it should be super fun! But no pressure, of course :-)!
